Think Coldplay is hot? I understand your anal obsession with alternative music (or maybe hip-hop, grunge, ska, and whatever kind of music you play in your boom box). But what's taking so long for you to catch up to the beat? There are days when I can't find my favorite MP3 downloads myself. I know you'd think my taste is "outlandish" (ha-ha). I don't listen to Bjork, though. Her song is not outlandish enough for me. But when I feel the urge to spend all day to search for my MP3 songs that is not Bjork-oriented, I just check out Audiofind.

Is it so easy to complete the collection in your list when it's taking eons to find and download them? Moreover, sometimes the singles come in the wrong file format such as "wma" and your blasted MP3 player won't be able to run them. Audiofind allows you to search in a massive archive with nothing but MP3 songs. How much does the search and the download cost? Zilch. The only warning I can give you here is that unless you are using hi-speed DSL internet accesss, the download can be a frustrating wait.

Audiofind gives you a good look at the facts "surrounding" your favorite MP3 single. I did with Coldplay's "The Hardest Part" and I was shown the file size, the date the song was added to the MP3 player search list, the number of times it has been downloaded, the date it has been verified as a valid MP3 file, its status as a downloadable material (in this case, it's "working"), the password (not required since it's accessible to all), and download link. Sometimes a bonus such as the lyrics also appears along with the figures.

Kiwi Alpha 2.6 is designed as a small, fast, and resourceful P2P program. I think that this MP3 search program's design is based on the principles of function and simplicity. The program is divided into three simple screens namely: Search, Transfers, and My Media. The navigability and ease of use of the program allow perfect access to even random, unpopular songs. Plus, it gives superb and extensive search results. It's not surprising considering that it is connected to the whole of the Gnutella network, BearShare, Limewire, and other leading MP3 search networks. I figure that since Kiwi has an extensive network, the searches will take a long time. But it never happened, and my searches remain short and sweet.
Also the search returns with relevant files and numerous hosts. Plus, Kiwi Alpha has no spyware, adware, and pop-ups. Even my antivirus protection program detects zero viruses and infections. The only downside of this product is that it does take up a lot of disk space so I recommend that you uninstall other programs that you don't use if you're short in RAM. Otherwise, Kiwi is just fine and I love it. For something that's free, gives good performance, protects my computer, and lets me have my fun, then a little bit of RAM is not such a bad price to pay.

Limewire could be the most popular among the Gnutella network, which is a file sharing network that quickly replaced the famous old Napster after it has been shut down. It has a new cleaned up Java interface in version 4.1 that looks way better than earlier versions. Because it is written in Java it can be used on any Operating System where java can be installed, and that includes Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Unix and Solaris. But one of Limewire's disadvantages is that it needs Java to run and that means you should take care that you always have the latest version of Java installed on your computer and it's quite "resource heavy". But on top of that it doesn't tackle you with ad-ware, nag-ware or hurting colors, and just convinces with a clear and transparent surface for searching, downloading, browsing and collecting files.
You can search for any file may it be audio, images, videos, documents, or programs. After selecting the audio option, you are provided with a more advanced search tool using title, artist, album, genre, and license type. Then you are given the long list of search results. You just choose a file and hit the download button or double-click that file. But I suggest you first configure Limewire for your needs for if you use Limewire with the default settings it is good for others but bad for you because almost all of your bandwidth is spent for uploading files and very few for downloading. Go to the Tools, then Options menu and set all options from top down to your needs. Make sure you do not cancel any file sharing but leave at least a few files to share with others.

Whenever there is a discussion on where best to download mp3s online, the name Napster usually find its way in the conversation. Napster became famous because it allowed people all over the world share music files, particularly mp3, for free. It became infamous when it faced legal charges from some of the music industry’s prominent figures. The Heavy Metal band Metallica was the first to file a lawsuit against the developers of Napster after the Mission Impossible movie soundtrack “I Disappear” leaked out of Napster and was aired on numerous radio stations in the United States even before it was officially released. The queen of pop, Madonna, also filed a lawsuit a year later when one of her singles has been victimized by Internet leakage prior to its commercial release.
Of course Napster supporters stood their ground to defend the online music service. They said that file sharing over the Internet is inevitable and Napster should not be held responsible for the people’s choice to circulate copy-written songs over the web. On June 3, 2005, Napster finally crumbled and the website displayed a “Napster was here” logo. Napster’s infamy paved the way for other peer-to-peer music sharing services such as Limewire, Kazaa, and Morpheus.

A legal way to find MP3 on the Internet is through subscribing to improved P2P sites. Most of them now asks for a subscription fee from users. They do this to prevent lawsuits and court appearances.
The new version of Napster actually does this already. They ask for a fee per song you download. They are able to give what is due to the record companies and artists and gain profit too. They are now one of the leading MP3 search engines on the Internet.
